Indian Electric Two Wheeler Market

Even though demand for electric cars is still low, top executives at Hero MotoCorp, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI), and TVS Motor Company predicted that the share of battery-powered models in India’s two-wheeler market would triple over the next five years.Due in large part to the desire for scooters, one out of every five two-wheelers sold in the local market is anticipated to be electric during this time. When little over a million 2Ws were sold nationwide in 2024, battery-powered models made up 6.1% of the total, according to data compiled by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations from the Ministry of Road, Transport & Highways’ Vahan webpage.

In order to compete with startups like Ola Electric and Ather Energy, established two-wheeler manufacturers like Hero, HMSI, and Bajaj are speeding up plans to introduce new products and strengthen their sales and service networks in light of the growth potential.  In 2024, startups like Ola, Ather, and Greaves Electric (Ampere) held a roughly 60% market share in the domestic electric two-wheeler industry.
