Food Testing Infrastructure

Title: Govt planning to ramp up food testing infrastructure to boost exports

A Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), E-Health features, and traceability components will all be integrated into an easy-to-use web platform that the Export Inspection Council plans to launch. A top government official stated on Wednesday that the Commerce Ministry intends to increase exports by expanding its food-testing infrastructure. The Ministry’s Export Inspection Council (EIC) has started a thorough gap analysis research on the infrastructure needed for food testing for exports.

“Even though we have taken several actions, we are still doing a more thorough investigation, both geographically and in terms of commodities. We are finding weaknesses in our food testing system. After the study is finished, which should be in two to three months, we will create a detailed strategy to extend the infrastructure within a year.”

An integrated traceability module will also be introduced by the EIC to manage and expedite the export certification, testing, and inspection procedures. The council is implementing cutting-edge technology, such as IoT-based sample methods, Mr. Yadav continued. According to him, new labs are being built in Mangalore, Faridabad, and Ahmedabad.
